Short explanations of fields commonly shown in motor carrier, broker, and freight forwarder records.

Each field page explains what the field contains in public FMCSA data, why it matters for verification workflows, what its limits are, and which official system to check when a decision depends on current values. Fields are displayed as imported from the FMCSA Company Census File — they may be stale and should be verified before use.

USDOT Number

A USDOT number is a federal identifier used in public motor carrier records. It is often the most reliable starting point for matching a company profile across public systems.

MC Number

An MC number is a docket identifier commonly associated with operating authority records. It may appear with carriers, brokers, or other regulated entities.

Entity Type

Entity type describes the role shown in a directory record, such as carrier, broker, freight forwarder, mixed, or unknown.

Operating Status

Operating status is a public-record field that may indicate whether an entity appears active, inactive, out of service, or otherwise limited.

Authority Status

Authority status describes the state of a company's operating authority record for a regulated transportation role.

Power Units

Power units are reported commercial motor vehicles associated with a carrier record, such as truck tractors or straight trucks.

Drivers

Driver count is a reported number of drivers associated with a motor carrier record.

MCS-150 Date

The MCS-150 date indicates when a motor carrier identification report or related registration update was last reflected in the source record.

Cargo Carried

Cargo carried lists reported categories of freight associated with a carrier record.

Physical Address

Physical address is the reported business or operating location shown in a public company record.

Mailing Address

Mailing address is the reported address used for correspondence in a company record.
